High Performance Computing at IC3
Welcome to the wiki pages of High Performance Computing (HPC) at the Catalan Institute of Climate Sciences (Institut Català de Ciències del Clima - IC3)
In the context of climate sciences and computing sciences, the cutting-edge research question is to explore climate change, its impacts and other related phenomenons in optimum time by using advanced simulation and modeling tools and techniques. Although the processing speed of the desktop/server computer has increased dramatically since a couple of years. But in view of quenching the computing needs of scientific community, the deployment and use of High Performance Computing (HPC) Cluster is requisite.
Basically, Cluster Computing is the replacement of Super Computing and a cluster computer of today is more powerful than the super computer of the old ages. In addition, these are more economical in view of deployment and maintenance.
